#workingwellness The new VP 22 office complex, located at n.22 Via Vittor Pisani in Milan’s CentralStation district, is a building designed to make the work experience light and easy,with people’s well-being at the heart of its architectural concept.The building is characterised by an internal forest, “the hidden woods”, a small,green lung visible from all work stations and where to relax and keep in touch withnature. The forest goes on up to the rooftop terrace of the building.Other features make this building stand out in Milan’s skyline, such as the addedvolume above the great terrace on the 8th floor, completely transparent and with360° views of the city, and the ceramic facade with an invisible finishing based ontitanium dioxide water that can purify the air from the majority of pollutants.Rethink Energy provided technical support to the General Constructor and compiledthe technical documentation in compliance with Italy’s 10/91 regulation, as well aswriting up the power report of the project containing all the calculations and thetesting relating to the building’s installations in order to ascertain its compliance withall regulations for the reduction of buildings’, and installations thereof, energyconsumption. LIBRARY OF MILAN’S CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY
#savingculture Presently, the library at Milan’s Catholic University consists of a main room andannex depot, 8 section-libraries located in the various institutes and departments,the open shelves Giuseppe Billanovich Reading Room and a further 12 readingrooms. It possesses around 1.5 million books and 38.000 periodicals, of which13.000 in a digital format.Rethink Energy took on the design and the works direction of the mechanical,electric and special systems using heat-pump technology, on the occasion of thecomplete restructuring of the prestigious library that also involved the SalaCinquecentine, where ancient manuscripts and incunables are kept. Among theman extremely rare specimen containing the Visconti family tree, around 1.000 scrollsgoing from the 3rd Century B.C. to the 7th Century A.C., Sumerian tablets, preciouseditions of rare books and more than 2.000 “cinquecentine”, books printed in the 16th Century, including an invaluable, miniature edition of Dante’s DivinaCommedia and a rare edition of Plato’s Dialogues curated by Marsilio Ficino.These ancient works are protected by a fire-extinguishing system using NOVECgas, an innovative product that constitutes an alternative to other extinguishinggases that have a higher GWP. SYMBIOSIS – BUILDING D
#communitydistrict The Symbiosis urban regeneration project transformed an industrial space, once astrategic area for Milan’s economic development, in a new mixed-use urban districtaiming at addressing contemporary sustainability issues in an innovative way.Designed by international architecture and design Studio Antonio Citterio PatriciaViel (ACPV), Symbiosis follows the guidelines of European research and innovationprogramme Horizon 2020. Extending over an area of 130.000 sqm South of PortaRomana, it is home to many important multinational companies, but not only. Thedistrict also hosts showrooms, museums, universities and research centres such asFondazione Prada and Talent Garden.Building D, the new office block, serves as an urban laboratory to investigatetomorrow’s new work environments. Rethink Energy designed its cooling/heatingand power system, using groundwater heat-pumps, and photovoltaic and vegetableoil co-generation technologies integrated in a trigeneration system. This mix ofpower solutions ensured very high levels of efficiency and the use of renewablesources, thus securing the volume bonuses contemplated in Italy’s Dlgs 28/2011regulation.For the particular attention paid to wellbeing (the 75 sqm green area atop thebuilding will allow people to take healthy outdoor breaks and even exercise),Building D gained bronze score Core WELL certification. #stopglobalwarming Cavotec Specimas SpA is a multinational company specialised in the manufacturingof lifting and handling equipment.For their new 150-staff warehouse located in Nova Milanese, we built a newheating/cooling system based on heat-pumps featuring full inverter magneticlevitation centrifugal compressors with groundwater condensation. A latestgeneration system ensuring exceptional performance.To maximise sustainability we used geothermal energy and eco-friendly HFO R-1234ze refrigerant, which has an extremely low Global Warming Potential: 7 versusa GWP of 2.800 for the traditional R 407 refrigerants.Rethink Energy was in charge of designing the mechanical, power, electrical andspecial installations, as well as of the project management and the direction andcoordination of MEP works. #shopping&leisure The Rescaldina shopping center is an absolute leader in its area. It was recentlyrenovated and extended to offer a complete shopping and leisure experience, withshops, entertainment, services and quality restaurants.It extends over two floors, with 77 businesses including a 15.339 sqm supermarket,a 19.525 sqm GLA mall and more than 4.200 parking spaces.The shopping center blends harmoniously in the surrounding context and is mindfulof environmental sustainability, gaining BREEAM certification. Rethink Energy was responsible for designing the mechanical, power, electrical andspecial installations. In particular, Rethink Energy created a new heat recoveryheat-pump based cooling/heating plant serving the four-pipe system and the air-treatment units. EXPO 2020 DUBAI PERÙ PAVILLION
#buildabetterfuture The Peru pavilion was one of the top attractions among the 192 stands at ExpoDubai 2020: it won the Gold award in category B for autonomously designed andbuilt pavilions. It even featured an impressive reproduction of the Kuélap walls, apre-Colombian archeological site standing at a 3.000 m altitude, and second only toMacchu Picchu in terms of historic relevance. The pavilion also won the World ExpoAward in the People’s Choice category as the public’s preferred pavillion.Rethink Energy designed the pavilion’s mechanical, electrical and specialinstallations. #energyefficicency Located in Cagliari, Sardinia, the Marconi Shopping Center stands at the heart ofthe densely populated Pirri district. Thanks to its strategic position, it attracts manycustomers from Cagliari’s suburbs.The three-storey complex, featuring 1.600 parking slots, hosts 50 shops and a hasa total usable commercial surface of 25.000 sqmThe works for the renovation and extension of the shopping mall aimed to enhanceits overall energy performance, both by acting on the passive elements and on thesystems themselves so as to lift the building’s efficiency level up to the higheststandards. #natureintown Standing at n°5 via Verona in Milan’s Porta Romana district, where the old ATMpublic transport terminal was once located, this residential complex offers 59 classA units, with a 3000 sqm internal courtyard turned into a public garden.Urban Garden was conceived as a modern city oasis protected by the surroundingbuildings, with all the apartments overlooking the internal gardens and benefittingfrom their soothing, spectacular views.The landscaping of the project was based on the the introduction of an “urban”dimension into the concept of a city park.Rethink Energy was in charge of the excecutive management of the project and theworks direction of the mechanical, electrical and special systems using heat pumptechnology. #cityliferesidences The libeskind residences are part of a multifunctional complex created by Polish architect Daniel Libeskind as part of the Citylife project, an avant-garde project that changed the face of Milan. It combines luxury with environmental consciousness and represents a major restoration project at European level. The project encompasses the creation of sustainable residential units which are perfectly integrated in the surrounding green spaces. They are characterised by curved lines that follow sunlight and by the the presence of abundant trees and bushes on the very balconies, forming a vertical wood. A truly avant-garde project that looks at the future and makes the best use of the most advanced technology while keeping in touch with the essence of mankind and its being part of nature.
