#SmartRetailMessina In the Tremestieri district of Messina, the city’s largest shopping center is under development, featuring a gross commercial area of approximately 39,000 m² and over 2,500 parking spaces. The project includes a modern hypermarket, around 60 local shops, medium and large retail spaces dedicated to electronics, clothing, sports, services, and dining. Rethink Energy Srl was responsible for the preliminary, detailed, and executive design of the mechanical, electrical, and special systems, focusing on advanced technological solutions such as the use of heat pumps to ensure energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. The development also includes improvements to the road infrastructure, with connections between the A18 Messina-Palermo motorway and the SS 114, aiming to provide efficient access to the shopping center and enhance city traffic flow. Notorious Cinema Merlata Bloom
#NotoriousCinemasMerlata Within the new lifestyle center Merlata Bloom Milan, Rethink Energy Srl managed the design and construction supervision of the mechanical and electrical systems for the Notorious Cinemas multiplex, inaugurated in November 2023. The cinema complex, comprising 10 theaters with over 1,000 seats, exemplifies the integration of advanced technology and environmental sustainability. The MEP project included the implementation of high-efficiency energy solutions, such as low-consumption HVAC systems, LED lighting, and mechanical ventilation systems with heat recovery. Special attention was given to the use of electricity from renewable sources and the incorporation of recycled and recyclable materials in finishes and furnishings. This intervention contributed to creating a comfortable and technologically advanced environment, aligning with Notorious Cinemas’ “The Experience” philosophy, offering audiences an immersive and sustainable cinematic experience. FIERA MILANO CITY MICO
#exposition Allianz MiCo is one of the largest congress centers in Europe. The original comet-shaped roof is the distinctive feature of Allianz MiCo and a landmark for the city of Milan. The Congress Center also houses an exhibition space, where events preferring a city location take place. The congress center is complemented by an exhibition center consisting of 4 pavilions, for a total of 43,000 square meters. Rethink Energy has overseen the design of the new 14 MW refrigeration and 10 MW heating capacity and the reconfiguration and revamping of the pavilions to accommodate conference spaces. MERLATA BLOOM
#newlifeexperience The design of this new shopping mall was based on the interviews conducted with Cascina Merlata residents and city users from the neighbouring districts, during which they were asked to express their needs and desires. The mall, extending over a heated surface of 90.000 sqm, connects the new neighbourhood of Cascina Merlata to the Mind/Expo district, and aspires to become the archetype of a living place, of experience, of daily social interaction and conviviality. The project adopts the highest standards of modern urban planning, fully respecting the environment and the surrounding landscape. It is a tribute to sustainability and biodiversity. Every aspect of Merlata Bloom Milano was carefully planned to make the best use of energy sources, but also to minimise its impact on the environment while optimising the production of solar energy. Merlata Bloom in numbers: a shopping center of 70.000 sqm, an additional 20.000 sqm Sky garden and 10.000 sqm dedicated to entertainment (cinemas) culture; 150 shops, 5 areas dedicated to Food & Beverage. The jewel in the crown being the “Winter Garden”, a bioclimatic conservatory which, thanks to a passive solar installation, ensures internal comfort without having to depend on any kind of climate-control system. Rethink Energy designed a heating/cooling system based on a condensation ring that allows for the thermal recovery among the various areas, significantly enhancing the overall energy efficiency of the building (which in effect was granted BREEAM certification for full and integrated sustainability). Cooling is ensured through 4.5MW geothermal wells and 14MW evaporation towers. Moreover, the system is connected to the local heating network providing 9 thermal MW. Rethink Energy took on the design of mechanical, energy, electric and special systems, as well as coordination, MEP management and the works direction of the entire project, combining heat pump, geothermal, teleheating and waterloop technologies. RESCALDINA SHOPPING CENTER
#shopping&leisure The Rescaldina shopping center is an absolute leader in its area. It was recentlyrenovated and extended to offer a complete shopping and leisure experience, withshops, entertainment, services and quality restaurants.It extends over two floors, with 77 businesses including a 15.339 sqm supermarket,a 19.525 sqm GLA mall and more than 4.200 parking spaces.The shopping center blends harmoniously in the surrounding context and is mindfulof environmental sustainability, gaining BREEAM certification. Rethink Energy was responsible for designing the mechanical, power, electrical andspecial installations. In particular, Rethink Energy created a new heat recoveryheat-pump based cooling/heating plant serving the four-pipe system and the air-treatment units. #buildabetterfuture The Peru pavilion was one of the top attractions among the 192 stands at ExpoDubai 2020: it won the Gold award in category B for autonomously designed andbuilt pavilions. It even featured an impressive reproduction of the Kuélap walls, apre-Colombian archeological site standing at a 3.000 m altitude, and second only toMacchu Picchu in terms of historic relevance. Thanks to its strategic position, it attracts manycustomers from Cagliari’s suburbs.The three-storey complex, featuring 1.600 parking slots, hosts 50 shops and a hasa total usable commercial surface of 25.000 sqmThe works for the renovation and extension of the shopping mall aimed to enhanceits overall energy performance, both by acting on the passive elements and on thesystems themselves so as to lift the building’s efficiency level up to the higheststandards. MILANORD2
#newfreetime Milanord2 is a new shopping center of approx. 150.000 sqm, employing more than 6.000 staff, on the outskirts of Milan. It stands at the intersection of the city’s M1 and M5 underground lines. This mall is among the most innovative on the European scene: in addition to the 350 shops, it includes several leisure areas (sports, theme areas such as the pirate ship or the jungle, water games for children and Milan’s first “surfer wave” simulator) and a 41.000 sqm piazza (called Skyplaza) that will host games, concerts and other outdoor and indoor events. Rethink Energy designed a condensation ring to serve the commercial units and the sub-stations supplying fluids for ambient-air treatment. It uses geothermal sources and the existing district heating grid. The total cooling power is approx 30 MW while the heating power is 12 MW. Rethink Energy was in charge of the mechanical, energy, electric and special systems’ design, and the MEP coordination and project management, combining heat pump, geothermy, teleheating and waterloop technologies.
