#newlifeexperience The design of this new shopping mall was based on the interviews conducted with Cascina Merlata residents and city users from the neighbouring districts, during which they were asked to express their needs and desires. The mall, extending over a heated surface of 90.000 sqm, connects the new neighbourhood of Cascina Merlata to the Mind/Expo district, and aspires to become the archetype of a living place, of experience, of daily social interaction and conviviality.   The project adopts the highest standards of modern urban planning, fully respecting the environment and the surrounding landscape. It is a tribute to sustainability and biodiversity. Every aspect of Merlata Bloom Milano was carefully planned to make the best use of energy sources, but also to minimise its impact on the environment while optimising the production of solar energy.   Merlata Bloom in numbers: a shopping center of 70.000 sqm, an additional 20.000 sqm Sky garden and 10.000 sqm dedicated to entertainment (cinemas) culture; 150 shops, 5 areas dedicated to Food & Beverage. The jewel in the crown being the “Winter Garden”, a bioclimatic conservatory which, thanks to a passive solar installation, ensures internal comfort without having to depend on any kind of climate-control system.   Rethink Energy designed a heating/cooling system based on a condensation ring that allows for the thermal recovery among the various areas, significantly enhancing the overall energy efficiency of the building (which in effect was granted BREEAM certification for full and integrated sustainability). Cooling is ensured through 4.5MW geothermal wells and 14MW evaporation towers. Moreover, the system is connected to the local heating network providing 9 thermal MW.   Rethink Energy took on the design of mechanical, energy, electric and special systems, as well as coordination, MEP management and the works direction of the entire project, combining heat pump, geothermal, teleheating and waterloop technologies. #sustainable luxury Aimed at a super premium target, this luxury hotel in Northern Umbria, Central Italy, includes a medieval hamlet complete with a 12th Century castle and a crypt dating back to the 7th Century B.C. It is set to become a global reference in sustainable hospitality.   The project’s masterplan is by Woods Bagot (ranked n.6 in BD’s World Architecture 100) while the interiors are by Tokyo’s celebrated design studio SPIN.   In addition to the 109 rooms and the 70 luxury residences for sale, the complex features an 18 holes golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, a restaurant, an equestrian center, a cookery school, an organic farm, a 12000 sqm spa and a vineyard.   The renovation works comply with the most rigorous environmental standards. In effect, Antognolla Castle will be the first 12th Century castle to gain US Green Building Council’s LEED certification.   Rethink Energy was in charge of the design of mechanical, energy, electric, special and fire systems, from preliminary phases through to completion, as well as of the coordination and MEP project management, combining heat pump and vegetable oil-based cogeneration green technologies. #historyoftourism Less than 5 kilometres from Porto Rotondo, the Abi d’Oru Beach Hotel & Spabelongs to the history of luxury tourism in Sardinia. It was Porto Rotondo’s firsthotel, built in 1963 by Ciga Hotels’ boss. At the time, the group was the ambassadorof Italy’s finest hospitality. The project was led by Simon Mossa, a Sardinianarchitect and an intellectual who also took an active part in one of Italy’s mostcelebrated successes in the tourism industry: the Costa Smeralda.The Abi d’Oru (“golden bee” in the Sardinian language) is a beehive of hexagonswith 162 rooms, almost all of them with a view on Golfo Marinella. It represents theperfect encounter of modern style with the island’s traditions.In 2017 the hotel embarked on a significant modernisation journey to bring it backto its former glory, yet fully respecting the local style and taste. #hybridisation The Urban Hive Hotel is an exclusive 4 stars boutique hotel in the heart of Milan’sBrera district, born from the radical restyling of the historic Carlyle Brera in CorsoGaribaldi.The newly conceived hotel is the result of an evolution process that involved thewhole of the hospitality industry in the past years, aiming at transforming hotelfacilities into multi-functional spaces that are open to the city.Hybridisation is the key word here as this innovative building features hybrid spacesthat are accessible also to non-guests, such as the breakfast room which, past acertain hour, becomes a co-working space, or the the gym that doubles as a relaxarea, with a cafeteria that can be used for informal meetings and receptions.Starting from this ground-breaking conception, we designed the mechanical,electrical and special systems of the entire 7-storey building.The use of heat recovery heat-pump technology and of advanced control systemsensured a very high level of functionality which, together with design and creativity,make this project eminently contemporary. Art was also introduced in the 2022-2023 Academic Year.Together with the Liceo Ecomomico-Sociale (Social&Economics) they form a high-schools hub named after master of photography Giovanni Gastel. #collectivetransport The new Macerata Università railway station (a project worth 1.65 million euro, partof a wider 110 million electrification project involving the entire Civitanova MarcheAlbacina line) was designed to change the city’s life and that of nearly 5.000students from the Bertelli campus, which until now was only accessible by car.The new station has a new 150m platform protected by a canopy. It also has atactile path for the blind, self service ticket tellers, LED lighting, cctv systems and aPA system.The new electrified line will transform the local line into a sort of surface metroconnecting the Vergini district with the city centre. With this latest project, theMarche Region will become one of Italy’s most electrified regions, with a quota of92%.For this project, Energy Rethink was in charge of the mechanical, electrical andspecial systems’ design. #seaviewliving Marina di Olbia is a modern sea port, opened in may 2009, nested in the naturalgulf of Olbia, in the North Eastern part of Sardinia.It is open all year round and offers 270 berths in addition to avant-garde facilities toease docking. It is also one of the safest ports in the Mediterranean, a shelteredhaven in any weather condition. Rethink Energy managed the execution of the project and the works direction forthe mechanical and electrical installations of the two new luxury residential siteswith 40 apartments overlooking the harbour.
