The town of Pomarance, in the province of Pisa, will host the first Green Data Center made up of around 3.000 data servers with total “CO2=zero” impact. A world premiere. The Green Data Center will be located in Larderello, South_east of Pisa, an area known for its geothermal activity and already home od the oldest geothermal plant in the world. According to Rethink Energy’s project, all the electricity needed to power the servers and the primary and backup devices will come from renewable sources (geothermal), while the ample spaces within the building will be cooled using highenthalpy geothermal systems (characterised by temperatures above 150°C), guaranteeing a PUE ratio of less than 1.1. Rethink Energy conducted the energy, technical and financial feasibility studies for this project representing a true environmental revolution in the field of data centres.
