The new Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio IRCCS (research) Hospital was built inside Rho Fiera’s MIND area (Milano Innovation District). The complex represents a model for Italy’s future hospitals, and is founded on the tight integration between care, research and training.
Numbers are impressive: 180.000 sqm of modern architectural concepts; 94 mt height (among Europe’s 8 tallest hospitals, and the world’s 75 tallest), 16 floors above ground; 30.000 sqm parking space and more than 600 beds.
Rethink Energy developed the new, advanced management and consumption-forecast system for the hospital’s heating/cooling plant. The control system can precisely forecast the energy consumption and select the most convenient sources, based on actual hourly cost acquired in a dynamic mode. Also, the system can monitor energy production units to compare actual performance with that declared by the supplier of the equipment.
The plant can supply 12MW in cooling and 8MW in heating with steam boilers, centrifugal compressor cooling units, heat recovery heat-pumps, district heating, steam cogeneration.
The new hospital was built making the best use of the most advanced solutions in terms of energy savings and environmental sustainability, reducing waste and noise-pollution levels to an absolute minimum. The hospital can apply for Gold V4 LEED certification for environmental sustainability also thanks to Rethink Energy’s mindful planning and design.
